What Was Taken
"What Was Taken"
Oil on Linen
20” x 20”
This painting is about a self fractured by abandonment or trauma. It’s a portrait of something internal that was ripped away or a part of the self that didn’t get to grow or remain whole. The dripping, raw surface mirrors the wounds left behind by formative trauma, especially the kind that comes from being left behind by someone who was supposed to love you. The suspended top shape could represent what was lost. An innocence, a connection, a version of self that had to break off to survive.
